This course is designed to introduce the basic, Intermediate, and advanced skills and knowledge needed to track a wanted subject with efficiency and security/officer safety.

 

The training can be tailored to an agency's needs in their jurisdictional environment.

 

This 40-hr. training event includes night tactics and techniques, advanced scenarios with the employment of dogs (when available), live fire exercises and the use of air assets (when available).

 

The course follows step-by-step, hands-on approach to learning.

 

In this course you will be taught the following and more:

  • Terminology & locating the rail
  • Aging the sign or trail and assessment of the sign or trail
  • Technology for aiding in the search and tracking
  • Point man techniques & employment of canines
  • Anti-tracking techniques and exercises
  • Speed and tactical tracking& avoiding ambushes
  • Team & individual tracking & helicopter employment
  • Command and control during the operation
  • Detecting, Interpreting, Recording and Trailing sign of the passage of humans, be they lost, missing or evasive.
  • Use tools to identify and record track evidence of a particular individual
  • Learn to see difficult tracks and sign in a variety of ground covers
  • Understand the science and art of aging tracks and sign
  • Apply sign cutting and tracking tactics to large scale scenarios
  • Refine track and sign interpretation including direction of travel, aging, etc.
  • Construct an accurate and descriptive after-action report of tracking tasks
  • Present your expertise and evidentiary findings in a court of law
  • Learn and practice Point Last Seen (PLS) approach tactics
  • Refine your ability to accurately detect and interpret tracks and sign
  • Discover similarities and distinctions between animal and human tracks

 

Professionally presented classroom sessions will be followed by most of the time spent outside putting the concepts you learn to use. We will have a good time while exploring and practicing methodical sign cutting tactics, more night tracking and contaminated location scenarios. Exploring and practicing track preservation (measure, sketch, photograph, and cast), situational awareness, trailing a person, and night tracking. While this course is oriented to search/rescue, military, and law enforcement professionals, it is also designed for individuals that want to round out tracking skills.

 

The class will be a mix of indoor presentations, outdoor scenarios and going to court on Sunday - so bring appropriate clothing (recommended gear list will be sent after registration).

 

Lodging and meals not provided, but local camping areas and hotel information will be provided upon request or registration.
