Additional Course Information:
Responding to emergencies is one of the most dangerous and physically demanding professions. To help improve the safety, performance, and quality of life of uniformed personnel in the fire service and public safety.
The physical conditioning required of a firefighter, medic, or law enforcement officer must perform on the scene adequately can be compared to that of a professional athlete. Unlike professional athletes, we don't know when the subsequent fire or dynamic situation will be, and we don't get to warm up. Responders don't have professional coaches, massage therapists, medical staff, and state-of-the-art gym equipment.
There has always been controversy regarding fitness standards. There is no current universal fitness test or criterion for firefighters in Alaska. For anyone wishing to become a law enforcement officer. Many local departments have fitness standards for their hiring process but nothing for incumbent members.
The course will not increase the student's physical fitness level. However, your fitness is a byproduct of the entire training and preparation for the course. So the program does have a positive impact on your level of fitness.
The physical training portion of this course is designed to warm up and then stress all the muscle groups that work your cardiovascular system and your flexibility. Calisthenics and the Obstacle Course are used because of time restraints. The calisthenics will be used as a warmup to prevent injuries on the obstacle course.
This course improves the wellness and fitness of their departments and assists with recruits' physical training during challenging entry tests.
Please note: The role of an Emergency Service / Public Safety Fitness Trainer differs from a Personal Trainer since public service personnel has particular needs and an extreme work environment well beyond what the average exerciser will ever face.
